About The Land
1877 Perry Township was first established as an agriculture community, severing and selling the original acreage on September 10th, 1877. 561 Star Lake road (our land) which originally was 100 acres was sold two decades later to James Blackburn in the 1890's. James Blackburn would have bought the land during Perry Townships economic boom caused by J.R Booths Railway built in 1885. The railway allowed easy access to other communities in the west, which caused the growth of the commercial lumber industry.
About The House
The main part of our house is estimated to be 100+ years old, which would line up with the property purchase in 1890. The cabin which is a hand-built tongue and grove squared off log cabin. with a full dovetail notch corner joint. The cabin would have been heated by a wood stove vented to the exterior of the cabin (the vent hole is still very apparent in our kitchen). Along with the house is a six stall horse stable, which we can assume was built later on as many of the materials used do not match the log cabins.
Our Vision
Our vision for the house is to keep as much of the original log cabin showcased, keeping a very rustic farmhouse theme. Exposed log wall and the floor above will be kept intact painted white with the original beams and joints refinished to its natural state. One of the additions added to the house which we have restructured into a dining room will showcase the original log porch. This will also be the new location of our wood burning stove, allowing for an alternate heat source. The outside of the house will be white board and batten with a black steel roof and black windows (inside and out). We are so excited for this project and we hope you are too.
